St. Paul's will conduct its second annual baby shower this September to support the Baby and Children’s Ministry of Harvest House Buffalo. Harvest House is located on Buffalo’s east side (Jefferson Avenue) and assists more than 7,200 children annually, the majority of whom require diapers and other baby supplies.
WHY ARE WE HOLDING A BABY SHOWER?
September is a tough month at Harvest House’s Baby and Children’s Ministry, supplies are low and demand increases.
The lack of diapers is a big problem often associated with major family problems:
Babies suffer from higher-than- average infections.
They have trouble qualifying for preschool programs because they cannot supply sufficient diapers.
Families living near the federal poverty level must spend 10% to 15% of their GROSS income to buy enough diapers. This creates the tough choice of paying bills or buying baby supplies.
PRIOR CAMPAIGN
Last year, five area churches, Boy Scout Troop #92, and Tops Markets joined forces to assist Harvest House. The effort was a huge success: over 8,000 diapers, 85,000 wipes, 400 baby bottles, and other baby and children’s supplies were donated.
